KE announces Syed Taha as new CEO, replacing interim head

KARACHI: The K-Electric (KE) on Tuesday announced Syed Taha as its new chief executive officer, replacing interim CEO Adeeb Ahmad. In a letter to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company said the appointment will come into effect on April 15. It said that Taha holds an engineering degree and an MBA in finance from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi. He has been serving as the Managing Director and CEO of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) since February 2020. “Prior to joining PSO, he worked as an executive director in Oasis Energy, heading the program management office of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, Nigeria. “He has also worked previously as chief distribution officer of KE, as well as held several senior positions in different organisations,” the letter added. The incumbent interim CEO, Ahmad, was appointed on February 13 after KE’s previous CEO, Moonis Alvi, s tepped down , days after getting a clean chit from the then-Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori in a workplace harassment case. In a post on X, Alvi confirmed that he had “decided to step down”. “It has been an honour to serve an institution so central to Karachi’s life, alongside some of the most resilient and committed professionals I know,” said the former KE CEO, adding that he will “support a smooth transition”.
